Our valued client called us out recently after attempting to clear blocked drains himself. He actually had a fair go at it, however unfortunately most root infested drains require expertise and the right equipment in order to get them flowing again. Watch how Darius from Plumbdog in Perth is able to not only clear the drain but to also 100% clean the drain pipes in the process. Old fashioned drain clearing equipment that is carried by most plumbers are only able to clear a drain around 50%, meaning you’ll be calling them out again in no time. Rely on Plumbdog, we have all the gear and every idea when it comes to blocked drains Perth.

Making your Blocked Drains Great Again

If your drains are rooted and creating havoc on your drainage system, your local plumber like the team from Plumbdog provide the best solutions for blocked drain clearing and repairs. With their extensive knowledge and skilled expertise, they have all gear and every idea to clear the root infested drains and bring them back to the original cleaned condition.

The tree roots are one of the most common causes of blocked drains causing blockages which are not necessarily easy to detect or clear. Some properties have tree ingress in various locations. In the video you will see how Darius, one of our top dogs, has visited the site and has examined the rooted drain. With the help of a CCTV for inspection along with a high-pressure water jetter, he has cleared the roots inside the drain.

We all know that roots start to grow in the area where their moisture, hence they start to grow inside the drains and creating excessive damage to the property. Darius has many years of experience and makes clearing the roots look easy.

Inspecting the blocked drains

Darius found that there was another issue to consider. Due to the bad fitting, the pipe changes from the urban wear (clay pipes) to the PVC and it is not aligned properly. After further inspection and water jetting, he found more locations where the tree roots have penetrated inside the drains. This is a huge benefit of CCTV inspections. If the job was only half done properly and the drains appeared back to normal, you’d be calling a plumber back out in no time.

Water jetting the blocked drains

After inspecting the drain properly and knowing the causes, Darius fires up our locally made custom high powered water jetter inside the drain. The high pressure of the water cleans out the drain and unblocks the roots.

Having all the gear and every idea is why our obedient Plumbdogs have a long list of happy customers and why we are the maintenance plumbing experts that people turn to.

Blocked Drain in Kensington, Perth WA

In today’s video, our obedient Plumbdog Perth plumber is on a property in Kensington in Western Australia. The task for today is a blocked drains present in the rear left-hand corner of the property. The first issue in hand is that Richard has to figure out the exact position of the inspection shaft. which is the access point into the mains.

Finding the Inspection Shaft

After a little inspection using the shovel, Richard can determine the correct position of the inspection shaft. But the next issue at hand is that it’s a bit beyond the reach, and it’s almost a foot down deep into the sewage water. If he tries to get hold of it, then the water would go over the top of his glove; hence he has to think of a better way to handle the situation.

To get a better result, Richard instead decides to use a bucket to get all the water out by directly putting the bucket inside the hole as far as possible. He repeats the process around 20-30 times to get the water level down to get the hold of the access point and figure out if it’s a mains blockage or not, but unfortunately, it’s all in vain. No matter how hard he tries, the water keeps refilling at a swift pace, making it impossible for him to accomplish his task.

Reporting to the Water Corporation

After failing multiple times to get the water levels down, the best option is to report to the water corporation. Being quite certain that the issue is in the mains, Richard reports to the water corp to send out an emergency crew to clear the blockage and also a crew to disinfect the property.

Important Note: Only a licensed plumber is able to report to the water corp. A customer simply can’t contact the water corp directly and needs to have a licensed plumber visit the property first.

Providing Long Term Solutions

After the water corp finished clearing the mains and disinfecting the property, our experienced Plumbdog can make recommendations to keep the plumbing in good order going forward. The fact that the property houses a lot of matured trees, tree roots are a most likely cause of the blocked drains. With our specialised equipment, we can complete a full inspection and make recommendations along with a recommendation to bring up the inspection shaft to the ground level which is an ideal position.

For now, the best Richard can do is wait for both the water cooperation and disinfectants to do their job, and then Richard can re visit to see what’s the best he can do to combat the issue at hand.

The Job – Signs of a Blocked Drain

We were called out to this job because the customer reported blocked drains. The symptoms started with a gurgling toilet followed the next day by a laundry that presented with the same issue.

Fortunately, the client knew where the main drain access point was and in this particular scenario, the blockage affecting the property was between the access point and the water corporations main.

Do you know where your inspection openings are?

Every property is different and inspection points are not in standardised locations. In some older properties the inspection points may be hidden away or be fully covered over making it even more difficult to locate. While inspection openings are required and are regulated, they aren’t always raised when necessary to make them easy to find.

Why is it good to know where your access point is?

Knowing where your access point is will save time searching which means money. While we are pretty good at sniffing out access points, the longer we have to spend hunting and digging with our paws, means incurring what could be unnecessary charges. You may have come across your access points in obscure places when doing your gardening or maybe getting a patio installed so this knowledge may come in very handy.

The Video

Our obedient Plumbdog knows his stuff and isn’t afraid to get his paws wet. He gets in with some new and old fashioned technology to get the job done with a combination of the drain shaft plunger followed by our CCTV drain camera equipment to clearly identify the problem where you can clearly see the culprit tree roots. Then using our custom made high pressure water jetters, we get the job done!

Well done to our loyal customer too for knowing where the inspection shaft was saving time and money making it quick an easy to get on with the job of detecting the blockage and fixing the problem.

  • This job started as a simple Blocked Toilet
  • The blockage was in the main line and it was concrete!

In the video, you’ll notice that our obedient Plumbdog Darius said that he already sorted out the toilet to get it working but when you have a nose for this type of job, he double checked the line for the toilet and found more problems. To the average person or even a less experienced plumber, they would have called it a day which would only cause more problems in the future.

The Plumbing Problem

Concrete in the drains! Now we are used to seeing tree roots, hair and all sorts of usual things creating the need for drain cleaning and drain clearing but concrete is an interesting find. Presumably the concrete entered the drain when the bathroom was renovated.

The Video

In the video, Darius shows us the drain through our CCTV drain camera and gives us a walk through with commentary of the discovery process where he determines where the drain is blocked and why it’s blocked. Then we get to see our water jetter at work clearing through the concrete and dirt.

A couple of interesting points to note which we are always proud to say. Apart from the skills and how easy Plumbdog Darius makes the job look through the camera, our water jetters are custom made locally with power. We’re often called in to take on jobs which others say can’t be done. Imagine being told you had to dig up all the pipes to get this problem solved when we were able to get this done with minimal fuss.

On top of that, notice how far down the inspection opening was for the toilet. We’ve raised it to ground level for easy access in the future which also helps to stop sand getting into the drain. We also found an illegal square junction rather than a Y junction in the drain.

Working With Maintenance Plumbing Specialists

How many times have you called out a plumber only to find that they need to be called back out for the same problem a few weeks later? This would have probably been the same case if someone else was called out to the job saving time and money in the long run and the inconvenience of having to arrange another day off to get the plumbing done at home.

This is why we say we have all the gear and every idea! We are able to sniff out and fix the problems rather than needing to call out other specialists, we are the specialists in our field.
